PAC:  00:01:48sec | Single Channel Video:  PAC – (Protest against corruption) it is not explanation; it is feeling of common public. What is to see, to be seen in all countries? This video explores the desire as the essence of vision to protest against corruption, the popular image of Krishna’s mouth scrutinized in current scenario of Anna hazare’s liberation of PAC in democratic Country. Significantly I used stop motion technique which I captured, multiplied in my own hand motions and the hand gesture of simple ordinary activity and how it develops and expresses into the medium of Art.

Varudangal:  00:04:49sec | Single Channel Video:  VARUDANGAL (Years) is a single channel audio- visual. This particular project, I used stop motion technique which I captured my own hand movements with multiplication in a circular order. Each hand is the same and each hand represent’s different names of Tamil Years. “The 60-year cycle of the Tamil Calendar is also found in many North and South Indian traditional Calendars, with the same name and sequence of Years. Its earliest reference is to be found in Surya Siddhanta, which Varahamihirar (550 CE) believed to be the most accurate of the then current theories of astronomy. The 60-yaer cycle is also used in the Chinese calendar”.

The mass repetition of stop-motion animation magnifies the subtle nuance, while distorting the whole ensemble into a mass activity. For instance, the hand gesture of simple mundane daily activity and how it develops and expresses into the medium of Art.

Abstract

Dis.solve:  00:02:58sec | Single Channel Video:  dIs.solve (Dissolve) is a single channel audio- visual. It presents the understanding of attainment of human occurrence and how it refurbishes in the conflict situation of the past and the present memories. The pictorial characteristic of visual elements represents popular images in Hindu culture and ceremony.

The transitional motion of playing to all characters and what emerges is an examination of the subtlety and hidden beauty of that moment. The elementariness of simple gestures of an apparently usual activity (such as routine ritual performed on Hindu deities and celebration in popular tag of “Shiva and Vishnu”in the loud speakers, it is recollecting the past memories of conflict situations in Saiva (Shiva) and Sri Vaisnavam (Vishnu) in Bhakti movements.). The entire application I used flash animated moving images with original music score, which carry out in a poetic form.

Artist Statement

Before having completed my MFA degree course in painting from College of Art, New Delhi in 2008, I had learned multimedia skills and had worked with private production houses that deal in new media technologies.

Aside from the technical proficiency this experience equipped me with, I saw myself at close quarters with a particular kind of aesthetic sensibility that the corporate sector privileges, one that can best be described as slick and glossy images which employ the rhetoric of desire and consumption.

The world today, over-abundant with such images even in the most conflict-stricken regions, produces a further layering of images which operate by technologies of surveillance, be it the google-maps, simulation devices, CCTV cameras, luggage/body scanning machines, etc.

It is within this milieu that I situate my practice as an artist, working synchronously with moving images in the digital media and static materiality of images in paintings. Whereas on the one hand, I employ similar rhetorical motifs as those in advertizing, on the other hand I bypass the information grid of surveillance in which certain images originally operate in order to bring out the poetics of life-experiences, disturbances, humor and fears.

I am currently based and working in New Delhi.
